The Blackfoot often went to war with other tribes of the plains. This was usually to gain new land for hunting or to protect territory they had that was being attacked. Their wars were a lot different from the wars we have today. Their wars included fighting techniques such as smoke signalling, surprise attacks, circling the enemy down and shooting with bows and arrows. Bows and arrows, along with shields made out of raw buffalo hide, were used.
Dancing Societies
There were also dancing societies. Dances showed war, hunting, and personal family issues that were among the tribe. Most of the time, these dances were done at summer gatherings.
